| Ever present party-er Lois Carbone looks on
waiting for the champagne to be eloquently served for my
departure "platform party" in Santa Barbara. "For God
sake!!, hurry up!, the train is coming!" said Lois.
| |
 |
| Weather poor first few days, so its off to the
Suisse Transport Musee Luzern by boat.
| |
 |
| The Mighty RHB narrow gauge
Crocodile from the 1920's. I have the LGB model of this
old workhorse. It was really neat to see the "real
thing"..and it confirms LGB's model is very authentic
not only with this but several other locos and wagons.
| |
 |
| The Mt.Rothorn steam cog. This equipment is kept
in beautiful condition and many tourists (Europeans too)
ride it to hiking trails. | |
 |
| I had a chance to see a lot of cows on this hike.
They are fitted with huge bells and create an
interesting sound in the hills. Watch out for the hill
muffins! | |
 |
| An interesting old cog engine next to platform in
Meiringen, home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Walked around
town, see the Sherlock Holmes Pub,Musuem, and the
beautiful waterfall Sherlock and Moriarity supposidly
met their doom, but its all part of my 9.5 hrs of video
tape. | |
 |
| #622 "Arosa"!!, same # as my model! Swiss engines
of this type carry a "badge" of an area. This one is
taking a train from Chur to Arosa, in the Alps and we
went along. | |
 |
| Arosa. In the same area of Switzerland as
Klosters and St Moritz, which we also saw.
| |
 |
| Ken by the Zillertal-bahn loco just before our
trip down the valley to Myridal. The old "buffet" wagon
I was in (next photo)is the one with the off-white
window strip. | |
 |
| Inside an approx 85yr old "buffetwagon" on the
"Zillertall-bahn" in Jenbach Austria.
| |
 |
| Just down from the Buffetwagon, a coach, and yes,
I have this one by LGB. We were able to ride this train
pulled by steam. Again, covered more by videos and
slides than prints. | |
 |
| The rare "Barrel" car which I was really happy to
find here in Zillertal's storage barn. Yup, I also have
a model of it! | |
 |
| The observation area above Zermatt reached by an
incredible cog rail trip (most cog lines not covered by
Eurail passes) Of course, when we got up there, a cloud
moved in and covered the Matterhorn. See the easel in
the center?..it was an ad to have your picture taken
with a St Bernard with the Matterhorn in background, the
guy had a long break this day, he and dog were there
when we arrived tho. | |
 |
| A short hike and some yodelling to clear the
sinuses | |
 |
| A fine meal aboard an old RHB dining car, all
wood inside We were returning to Chur from St. Moritz.
